Jerry Falwell homegoing

May 15, 2007

Dr. Jerry Falwell, pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church and founder of Liberty University, died today at 10:45 AM. Dr. Falwell led what is known as the Moral Majority, a conservative political group. He was a voice for the fundamental “right” in politics.

Even though some things have changed in Lynchburg since the college’s inception, I believe Dr. Falwell’s ministry has had a positive effect on America. May God bless his family, church, and university during their time of grief.

It’s funny how similar, yet opposite, lives he and dr. Hyles led. Both had large churches, a college, and both had a very large nation-wide following. I’m sure their church is going through a similar situation as we did at FBC. As much as I disagree with the majority of what he did…I must agree that he was a good man.

Speaking of similarity with Brother Hyles… their voices are just alike! I was listening to a clip on the news and couldn’t believe it!

My sympathies go out to his church and widow.

I will probably be one of the only ones that says this… but I really don’t care. Jerry Falwell was a great man of God and he will be missed greatly. Probably no man other than Billy Graham has been more recognizable in Evangelical Christendom than he. Albeit I diagree with his ecumenical stance and his views on separation, he still preached the old time Gospel without equivocation. If for nothing else he got President Reagan elected twice, and I am grateful for that!

I agree with you Adam. He decided to venture into the political realm, and he was successful at it. He managed to found the Moral Majority and build Thomas Road at the same time….what a heavy load he carried.

I was watching a special last night with Jerry Falwell. I think it was some sort of teen conference in their university gymnasium. He was preaching to them and the main focus of the sermon was on how the university is so great and what it was founded upon. He was preaching to them on why they should attend there for “at least 4 years”. Funny how that sounds so familiar…everything he was telling them was just like what we heard at HAC. Also, he told them that no matter what they get a degree in that they should first find a good local SOULWINNING church to attend and get involved in…I was shocked to hear the word soulwinning come from his mouth. anyways, just thought that was interesting
